Enhanced performance of BP asphalt shingles
All BP asphalt shingles are reinforced with a fiberglass mat, ensuring high durability. In addition, the architectural shingles Manoir, Mystique, Signature, and the new 42-inch shingles (Signature and Mystique 42 models), feature Weather-Tite technology, offering superior performance in the most demanding weather conditions. Thanks to its two ultra-adhesive strips, this patented system provides complete watertightness and resistance to wind uplift of up to 240 km/h (based on testing and backed by the manufacturer’s warranty).
BP eave protection (Gripgard and Weathertex waterproofing membranes) helps prevent damage caused by ice buildup along roof edges, which can lead to water infiltration under the shingles during thawing. High-performance underlayments (Suredeck, Deckgard, BP Prodeck and BP saturated felts) provide additional protection against water infiltration.

BP Canada offers both architectural and traditional 3-tab shingles across six product lines of laminated or stratified shingles. In addition, the Chrome color laboratory experts have developed exclusive color ranges using advanced granule application techniques.
Composition of asphalt shingles
The strength of modern asphalt shingles comes from their fiberglass mat, bonded with strong, durable resins. This mat is then coated with asphalt on both sides, making the shingle 100% watertight.
The asphalt used in shingles is stronger and more durable than that used for paving roads. It undergoes an oxidation process, where compressed air is blown into the hot asphalt to increase its viscosity. A mineral powder is added to enhance fire resistance.
Granules (finely crushed stone coated with a ceramic pigment and kiln-fired) are applied to the top layer to create long-lasting colors. These granules also protect shingles from UV rays and provide enhanced resistance to weather conditions.
Highly reflective shingles are also available, using special granules. Some shingles are designed with built-in granules that help prevent black stains caused by blue-green algae.
The underside of asphalt shingles is coated with sand or limestone powder to prevent them from sticking together during storage, along with an adhesive strip.
